CasinoWizard is mainly about online slots and where to find the best-paying version of those slots.
We comb through the slot selection of hundreds of the best online casinos daily to seek the highest RTP version of your favourite slots, based on your location.
But how well do online slots pay compared to other casino games, including table games?
If you want to have the best odds of winning in the casino, should you be playing slots, or should you be playing other casino games?
One of the most common misconceptions is that table games always pay out better than online slot games.
While this is true in some cases, it is not valid in all circumstances; some slots have a far better return to player than some table games.
We thought it would be helpful to compile a top 10 list of best-paying casino games, with some surprising results!
The difference between the payout percentage and house edge
Before we get to our top 10 list, we need to delve into the difference between the payout percentage and the game’s house edge.
While both terms are closely related, they are not the same.
The House Edge tells you how much the casino keeps from every stake in a game. If a casino game has an RTP of 97.3% (for example, European Roulette), the house edge is 100%-97.3% = 2.7%.
The Return To Player is the percentage of the stake that a casino game pays back to the player, calculated over the long run. A slot with an RTP of 97% will pay back approximately 97 pounds (or dollars) to the player for every 100 pounds that have been staked.
Please note that both the RTP and the house edge are calculated over millions of spins and are average numbers.
Results in the short term will always be different (for instance, you might get 0%, 20% or 300% of your stake back) due to the variance of the games.
The higher the RTP, the better it is for you. In terms of the house edge, you will be looking to find games with the lowest.
As the casino aims to make money, games with an RTP of over 100% do not exist.
The top 10 best-paying casino games
This list of top 10 paying casino games is a mix of table games, video poker, and online slots.
Choosing the right game when playing online casino games will increase your chances of winning.
1. Video Poker (Jacks or Better): 99.56%
Video Poker nearly returns 100% of your bets, with a house edge of only 0.44%.
However, there are some caveats. You must play the correct strategy, bet max coins (5 coins), and play the Jacks or Better version. This casino game offers players the highest RTP that we could find: 99.56%.
2. Blackjack: up to 99.5%
The second spot on this top 10 list of best-paying casino games is Blackjack. This card game is still one of the most-played games in the casino and is one of the few games where the player’s decisions directly affect the outcome of each hand.
If you play using the basic blackjack strategy and the game has favourable enough rules, you can reach a Return to Player of 99.5%.
3. Mega Joker (Netent): up to 99%
Mega Joker is a joker-style online slot that can pay up to 99%.
There is a catch: this extremely high RTP is only active when you play the top bonus game. The house edge is higher than 1% when you play the base game. As you always need to play the base game before you can collect credits to play in the bonus game, the average RTP is a bit lower than 99%.
If you are a fan of classic slots, you could do much worse than Netent’s Mega Joker.
4. Monopoly Big Event: 99% (in big bet mode)
Monopoly Big Event is a very popular Barcrest slot. It features all your favourite Monopoly characters and familiar board game gameplay elements and has a special Big Bet Mode.
In this Big Bet Mode, players are given the option to buy five spins at an increased price. These “Big Bets” significantly increase your odds of hitting the bonus round, increasing your RTP to 99%. The “Big Bet” option does not come cheap, though, with a price range of $/€20 – $/€30 per 5 spins.
5. Book of 99 (Relax Gaming): 99%
Book of 99 is a Book of Ra clone with some interesting extra features. For one, the Return to Player is exceptionally high, clocking in at 99%. Second, during the base game, you collect scatters, which will ultimately reward you with a “free” bonus game.
You can also activate the bonus feature by spinning three or more wild scatters in an old-fashioned way.
6. Baccarat: 98.94% (when betting on Banker)
Baccarat is one of the highest-paying table casino games, providing you bet on the Banker.
This bet pays out an average of 98.94%, which boils down to a house edge of just 1.06%.
Baccarat is especially popular amongst high rollers in Macau and Las Vegas and is often played in private rooms.
7. 1429 Uncharted Seas (Thunderkick): 98.6%
On the 7th spot of this top 10, we find 1429 Uncharted Seas, one of the first Thunderkick slots.
This gorgeous-looking sea explorer slot features expanding wilds, plenty of sea monsters, free spins, and, last but certainly not least, a high Return To Player percentage of 98.6%.
8. Craps: 98.64% (Don’t Pass Line)
Craps is CasinoWizard’s go-to game whenever he visits Las Vegas. There is nothing better than rolling some bones, enjoying the “us-against-the-casino” vibe, and, hopefully, winning some proper money.
The one bet CasinoWizard won’t play is the Don’t Pass bet. Although this bet is technically the best bet on the Craps table, as it has the lowest house edge, you are also betting against the roller.
Betting on the Don’t Pass Line is considered bad form (the Dark Side) and, quite frankly, not half as much fun as betting with the roller (the Pass Line, with a house edge of 1.41%).
9. Blood Suckers (Netent): 98%
Blood Suckers is a low variance Netent slot with a high RTP of 98%.
These two characteristics make Blood Suckers a perfect slot for turning Bonus Money into real money, which is why most online casinos have banned it from playing with bonus money.
That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this popular horror-themed slot with real casino money. The slot offers 25 pay lines, two fun bonus rounds, and plenty of entertainment value.
10. Kings of Chicago (Netent): 97.8%
Kings of Chicago is best described as a hybrid between an online slot and video poker.
Playing on five pay lines, you try to form winning Video Poker combinations such as a straight, a full house, and a royal flush.
Landing a Joker as part of a winning combination doubles the win, and there is also a free spins bonus to be won. The RTP for King of Chicago is an impressive 97.8%.
Do certain casino games pay out better than other games?
Generally, most table games pay out better than other casino games, such as slots, especially when playing in a land-based casino. Slots in a brick-and-mortar casino often have an RTP of 88%-92%.
Some of these games (Blackjack and Video Poker) require you to play the correct strategy to achieve the best results.
It can also make a considerable difference in which version of the table game you are playing. For example, European Roulette (single zero) will have a much better RTP than American Roulette (two zeroes).
In any case, we advise you to always read the game’s rules before you play.
Online slots have a higher RTP than land-based slots.
Why don’t you check out our top 10 best-paying online slots? It is an extensive list of all the best-paying online slots, with Return to Player percentages ranging from 97% to 99%.
A must if you are looking for online slots that pay better than average.
Which games should be avoided when it comes to the house edge?
If you want to avoid games with a terrible house edge, there are a few rules of thumb.
In general, it would be best to avoid these kinds of games or bets:
Side Bets: side bets on table games are called “sucker bets” because the house edge is always high.
Carnival Games: games such as the Money Wheel, Live Game Shows, and games geared towards novice players often have a low Return to Player.
Progressive slots: big jackpot slots entice you with multi-million jackpots, disguising that a significant percentage (between 5% and 7%) of every stake goes towards said progressive jackpots, heavily decreasing the actual RTP.
