There are two Wild symbols: the base Wild, and the Volcano Wild. Both can substitute for any icon except for Scatters, but only the latter can trigger one of the bonus features.

Volcano Wilds can only appear on the third reel during normal gameplay, and on the second and fourth reels while extra turns are being played. When it lands, it creates up to five regular Wilds and places them randomly in adjacent positions.

Multiple Volcano Wilds can land on the reels. If, for example, three of them appear on the third reel, the bonus would be played three times to compensate.

Collect three Scatters on the second, third and fourth reel, and you win ten free spins. During these extra turns, pays are granted both left to right and right to left. By changing the position where Volcano Wilds appear, it also increases their chances of substituting for a stronger winning combination.

The bonuses are rather fun, if somewhat difficult to hit at times. It boils down to luck: once, we managed to hit two free spins back to back, and other times, we burned through almost two hundred spins without seeing a single bonus feature.

While the free spins are somewhat generic, we enjoyed the twist of having them enable left-to-right and right-to-left winning combinations. When combined with creating additional Wilds, the special feature can net some amazing pays.

Volcano Riches has a slightly above-average RTP when compared to other games, but where it shines are the graphics. Choosing to go with stacked symbols was the right call to make, as it allows players to gawk at the clear effort the artists put in. Watching the mini-volcano which is part of the Volcano Wild erupt and transform other icons into more Wilds, never gets old, thanks to the smooth animations and lucrative wins it provides.

It felt like Quickspin could not quite decide in what direction they wanted to take the title, and that also shows in the medium-high volatility. The longer we played, the more it felt like the slot would benefit from lowering the variance and perhaps making the special features a bit easier to trigger.
