About Tomb Raider
Lara Croft Tomb Raider is the world’s first branded slot game, released in 2004 by Microgaming and branded around a hugely popular PC game at the time.
Later, the Lara Croft Tomb Raider game spawned several movies, the first of them starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft.
The game offers simple 15-payline game mechanics as well as a free spins game and a bonus game and is essentially a classic slot.
Introduction, including RTP and variance
The theoretical return to player (RTP) of Lara Croft is 95.22%, which is a bit low, but it started a trend of lower payouts on all branded slots as the developer has increased costs. The game uses the same engine as Mermaids Millions, except that the payout setting is lower here.
The game is played on a 3×5 reel set with 15 paylines, offering a classic experience.
The variance is low to medium, as the game often pays enough and well enough to keep you hovering around your starting bankroll for a while.
There’s the potential of winning some money, but the wins can’t be really huge but just decent.
Tombraider gameplay and paytable
Lara Croft has eight symbols plus a Wild and two Scatters.
There are five low-paying card symbols that never amount to any significant win, and there are three medium-paying symbols which are the main symbols in the game and also are responsible for setting the theme of the game. These pay well.
In addition to this, the Free Spins Scatter and Wild are also paying symbols, the latter being the best-paying symbol in the game that already issues a significant win for three-of-a-kind. There’s a remote chance of winning big in the base game.
Bonus features: free spins and pick and click
There is a free spins game and a bonus game in Lara Croft Tomb Raider. When you land at least three Free Spins Scatters, you’ll get 10 free spins with a 3x multiplier on all wins.
The variance of the free spins game is a bit high, as you need to get lucky with a big winning payline to take advantage of that 3x win multiplier. Free spins can be re-triggered during the feature.
Three, four or five Bonus symbols on an active payline will trigger the Tomb Bonus. You’ll enter the tomb with a lot of symbols, and you’ll choose three to get a coin win.
The more bonus symbols that activated the bonus feature, the bigger the potential worth of the prizes.
CasinoWizard’s verdict: 4 out of 5 stars
Lara Croft Tomb Raider has its place in the history of online slots but is still as playable and entertaining as ever.
The theme is timeless, and the two bonus features keep you wanting more and more.
The game with the identical engine, Mermaids Millions, is a better playing choice as it offers a better payout, but this is a branded slot, so many players choose this one because of the Lara Croft theme and ignore the tiny difference in RTP.
