About Mercy of the Gods
Mercy of the Gods is an online video slot from Netent that’s all about ancient Egypt. For most people, a trip to Egypt involves getting a tan and going sightseeing. The game hands you a VIP ticket straight to the newest tomb about to be unsealed! Along the way, you will receive their divine blessings.
Re-spins attached to Wilds, free spins with expanding Wilds, and a shot at hitting the massive progressive jackpot!
Mercy of the Gods introduction, including RTP and variance
You play Mercy of the Gods on a 5×3 board with 20 fixed paylines. Wins are granted by collecting three or more identical symbols in adjacent positions. These icons must follow one of the active paylines and must start with the leftmost reel.
The theoretical payout (RTP) for this slot is 96.64%, which is comfortably above the current industry average. Despite the progressive jackpot, the game has medium volatility. It does it best to balance smaller, more frequent pays, and the huge prizes that leave everyone breathless.
Mercy of the Gods gameplay and pay Table
For us, icons are a mixed bag. We do love some of them – most of the Egyptian themed symbols, as well as the archaeologist. Unfortunately, the developers chose to include playing card royals. They rarely manage to fit in properly, and Mercy of the Gods was no exception.
You have both Wilds and Scatters, and both of them can impact your gameplay. Not just in their traditional roles, but also as the triggers for re-spins and free spins, respectively!
When a Wild lands on the playing field, it grants you a free re-spin. After each one, the Wild moves down by one position. Once it disappears from the board entirely, then re-spins end. So long as there are Wilds on the playing field, the bonus continues.
If a Wild lands behind another Wild during the re-spin feature, it will expand and cover the entire reel.
Of course, positioning Wilds can be annoying, especially since you have no control where each one will land. But if you still want to make use of expanding Wilds, free spins have you covered! To activate this bonus, this slot demands a sacrifice of three, four or five Scatters. This will net you five, eight or twelve extra turns, respectively.
The re-spin special feature is still active during free spins, and all Wilds automatically expand.
Finally, collecting three or more bonus symbols rewards the jackpot feature. It is played on a separate 5×3 board. You get three spins, during which bonus icons can land on the playing field. Each symbol has a random cash value between 10x to 200x, but that’s the consolation prize. To win a jackpot, you need bonus icons to fill up one, two or all three rows! The more rows you complete, the higher your jackpot is.
CasinoWizard’s verdict: 2 out of 5 stars
We loved the bonuses and gameplay this NetEnt slot release offered us. Almost as much as we loved them a year ago when the developer released Divine Fortune. Sadly, this game ended up being nothing more than a clone, which is rather disappointing. It seems even studios of NetEnt’s size cannot help but dip their fingers into the forbidden cookie jar.
As is to be expected, the artists have outdone themselves yet again. Most of the symbols look gorgeous, and the animations are top-notch. Despite the care and effort being put into the whole thing, it is just another Egyptian themed release.
It has a solid RTP, medium variance, and a shot at winning the progressive jackpot. But, despite all of that, we would not recommend playing Mercy of the Gods. If you liked what you saw in the review, we recommend checking out Divine Fortune instead. It offers the same things, and you do not reward the developer for cloning their previous release.
