About Lock and Pop

When we first encountered Lock and Pop in online casino lobbies, we thought it was a new PopWins slot.

After firing it up, it quickly became clear Lock and Pop was a NetEnt slot, with zero “poppage” in the way we have come to know and love.

Instead, it is a neat little futuristic slot with a classic, retro feel and a bonus round that borrows features from existing slots but still feels original and fresh.

Lock and Pop RTP

Like so many new online slots, Lock and Pop has been released in several Return to Player versions. While all versions of this slot may look alike on the outside, there can be major differences in terms of payout percentages, depending on where you play this slot.

Lock and Pop may have three possible payout settings: 87.95%, 93.98%, or 96.09%. It makes perfect sense to only play the best-paying slots version of this game. This will ensure you get the best possible chance of winning without giving online casinos any more profit margin than absolutely needed.

Lock and Pop gameplay and features

Lock and Pop’s base game is played on a 5×3 grid, with 20 fixed paylines.

The paytable consists of classic slot icons such as royals (low pay) and higher-value symbols such as diamonds, bells, and 7s. Wild symbols come stacked and substitute all other symbols except Prize Symbols.

Other features include:

  • Low to medium variance.
  • Betting starts at 0.20 and goes up to 120 per spin.

Lock and Pop Bonus Round

Landing six or more Prize symbols (worth between 0.1 and 1,000 times the stake) triggers the bonus round:

  • Two extra reels are added to the grid: one for the boosters and one that collects the values per reel.
  • Prize symbols become sticky, and you get 7 free spins to try and collect boosters and more Prize symbols.
  • Prize symbols remain on the reels until a Lock and Pop bonus feature is activated or when the free spins have run out.
  • When a reel is filled with Prize symbols, you win an extra booster that is applied only to that reel.

Possible boosters are:

  • Retrigger – you get 3 extra free spins.
  • Adder – adds 1x or 2x the bet to all Sticky Prizes on the reel.
  • Magnet – copies the values of all Sticky Prizes on both vertically adjacent reels.
  • Super Magnet – copies the values of the Sticky Prizes on all other reels.
  • Topper – copies the highest value Sticky Prize to all other Sticky Prizes on the reel.
  • Blaster – adds 1x or 2x to all Sticky Prizes on its reel and adds the total to the top row and three other random positions.
  • Duplicator – creates a second game area with reproduced Sticky Prizes and three extra reels.
  • Big Bang – doubles the values of all Sticky Prizes in its reel and also doubles the total once the value of the Sticky Prize has been added together.
  • Super Collector – collects the values of all Sticky Prizes on this reel and adds them to the top row collection.
  • Hammer – collects the value of all Sticky Prizes on the reel and adds them to the top row collection. The new value is then spread to every position on the reel.

As you can see, there are plenty of boosters to be discovered, making each bonus round different from the one before.

Lock and Pop Bonus Buy

Players who want to take a shortcut and jump straight into Lock and Pop’s bonus round action can do so by paying 60 times the bet, if their jurisdiction permits bonus buy slots.

What is the maximum win on Lock and Pop?

Lock and Pop can pay up to 4,096 the stake, which is pretty steep for a low-to-medium variance online slot.

NetEnt never disclosed the max win probability of their slots, which leaves us guessing what the true odds are of landing the max win on Lock and Pope. We would say the odds are close to zero, and any wins of over 1,000 times the stake should be considered a major achievement.

Why we think you should try Lock and Pop (3 out of 5 stars)

Lock and Pop is a nice step away from the feature-heavy, over-the-top-themed slots that are so abundant in 2024. The style is classic retro, and the features are simple yet entertaining.

The game offers a more leisurely pace which will suit new and recreational gamblers most.

While Lock and Pop is not a slot that will move the needle on what is the next cool thing in the online slots space, we found ourselves enjoying our testing sessions on it.

Overall verdict: 3 out of 5 stars.

Lock and Pop has been officially released on May 21, 2024.
