About Ivan and the Immortal King
Ivan and the Immortal King is a high-variance and beautiful Quickspin video slot using a Russian fairy tale as its theme. It follows the story of Ivan Tsarevich, whose goal is to defeat the immortal king who has taken his wife and treasure.
Your goal is to assist the hero in bringing down the evil Koschei by destroying the needle where he stored his life force.
Along the way, players will encounter free spins with progressive multipliers, as well as the Baba Yaga surprise.
Ivan and the Immortal King introduction, including RTP and variance
The game is played on a 5×3 playing field with 20 fixed paylines. Pays are awarded by collecting three or more identical symbols following one of the active paylines, starting with the leftmost reel.
The theoretical payout (RTP) for this title is 96.29%, which is slightly above the average. Ivan and the Immortal King has high volatility. It focuses more on massive, but super rare jackpot wins over small, but more frequent pays.
Ivan and the Immortal King gameplay and paytable
Symbols are split into lower and higher-paying tiers. Lower-paying icons include five different gemstones of various colours – purple, orange, green, blue, and red. Higher paying symbols include a hydra, a wolf, Ivan’s wife, the evil king Koschei, and Ivan himself.
A richly decorated golden background with the word Wild written on it is the Wild symbol, while a locked treasure chest is the Scatter, used to activate free spins. During that special feature, the chest becomes a golden coin with a skull etched on top of it.
Bonus Features
In the story, Ivan defeated Koschei by destroying a needle, which is hidden in an egg, in a duck, in a hare, and within a chest. This journey is documented during the free spins bonus. Collect three, four, or five Scatters to trigger the free spins bonus feature.
Three Scatters start you at the chest level, and grant ten extra turns, four Scatters reward fourteen free spins and start you at the Hare level, while five Scatters will start gamblers at the Duck level and with eighteen extra turns.
There are six levels in total, each one with an increasing multiplier. You can advance to the next multiplier level by collecting three skull coin Scatters. Each time players advance, four additional free spins are granted, and the multiplier is raised, to a maximum of x 20.
Finally, there is the Baba Yaga surprise.
This bonus happens randomly, mostly when gamblers are short on Scatters. Yaga will hide four adjacent symbols and do one of two things with them.
She will either replace the icons with regular Scatters during normal gameplay, or progress Scatters during free spins, or she will pick a random symbol from the paytable to replace the hidden icons, guaranteeing a win.
CasinoWizard’s Verdict: 4 out of 5 stars
While progressive multipliers during free spins are nothing new, Quickspin managed to outdo themselves in making them exciting and fun. It is such a relief to win the special feature after spinning for a while, and the prize is more than worth the trouble. Baba Yaga’s appearances are also rare, but that only makes her more interesting when she does show up.
Ivan and the Terrible King’s RTP is slightly above the average compared to other slots made by the same developer. The graphics are also rather lovely, as is the choice of theme. Hats off to Quickspin for their decision, as we did not expect a Russian fairy tale ever to become a game.
The high volatility will not benefit casual players or those who do not know how to manage their budgets correctly. If you decide to play this Quickspin release, make sure you have some money to burn through. However, with the promise of a 40,000x jackpot, few will be able to say no.
