About Bookie of Odds

Bookie of Odds is a video slot themed after the thrilling sport of horse racing.

It is the latest production of Triple Edge Studios and Microgaming and has some engaging visuals and bonuses.

Of course, anyone who played Book of Oz will immediately recognize this game for what it is. It is a shameless re-skin of another slot, copying the mechanics of its predecessor completely. Here at Casino Wizard, we do not condone that kind of practice.

Introduction, including RTP and variance

You play Bookie of Odds on a 5×3 board with 10 fixed paylines. Wins are granted for collecting three or more identical symbols in consecutive positions, from left to right only. All prizes must follow one of the active win lines, or they will not be granted to the player.

This slot’s theoretical payout (RTP) is 96.50%, which is higher than the current industry average.

This Microgaming release is quite volatile, so we recommend budgeting responsibly while playing. Failure to do so will brutally murder your remaining account balance and destroy your dreams of a big jackpot win.

Gameplay and Pay Table

Icons can be split into higher and lower-paying tiers. Less valuable symbols include playing card royals: 10, J, Q, K, and A.

The 10, J, and Q share the spot of lowest paying icon, only rewarding 10x for a five-of-a-kind win. Higher paying symbols are three horse jockeys and one super excited referee. Said referee is the most valuable icon, paying 500x for a five-of-a-kind win.

There’s only one special symbol, which is the golden book. It acts as both a Scatter and Wild at the same time. It is mostly used to award free spins and substitute for other icons.

Because of this, nine times out of ten, you’ll be happy to see the Scatter-Wild on the board.

Bonus Features

Collect three, four or five golden Wild-Scatter books to win ten, twelve or twenty-five free spins, respectively. At the start of each free spin, one symbol is randomly chosen to become an expanding icon. Said symbols will expand across the reel they are occupying, increasing the chances of victory! Expansion only occurs if it will lead to a win.

At the end of each round, gamblers can spend some cold, hard cash to buy a re-spin for a single reel. The bigger the odds of you winning, the more money it will cost to re-spin that reel. We already knew fleecing was Microgaming’s favourite hobby, but this slot made it all the more obvious.

CasinoWizard’s verdict: 2 out of 5 stars

The special features were quite fun, if somewhat generic. It doesn’t help that they, as well as all other gameplay elements, were cloned from another Triple Edge release. The bonuses are identical, as are the volatility and the RTP. This has significantly brought down our score for this game. Being inspired by your previous slots is fine, but copying them entirely is a good way to earn our ire.

The only unique thing about this game is the theme and symbols. It’s a good thing that this was utterly Microgaming’s idea. After all, they wouldn’t make a lazy re-skin and then release it one day earlier than the competition. Oh wait, that’s precisely what they’ve done.

Visually, Bookie of Odds is acceptable, but not much more. The static background image isn’t doing them any favours. The symbols are all bland and lifeless and do little to entice the player. We know for a fact that these developers can make some slots look amazing. So when we get something like this, we naturally get annoyed.

Microgaming continues to be the living example of what not to do when it comes to iGaming and slots. This game was simply another horrible idea to add to the ever-growing pile.
