Big Runner Deluxe is a remake of an old Stakelogic classic bearing the same name.

Both visuals and gameplay have seen an upgrade, though one of these two received more attention. There’s not much as far as exciting bonus features go, but the ones available get the job done.

You can play this slot on a large 5×5 board, with 33 fixed paylines. Cluster wins or ways to win usually accompany this type of board. As such, we were surprised to see regular paylines. To win, you have to collect three or more identical symbols in adjacent positions from left to right. For a win to count, it must follow one of the 33 active paylines!

The theoretical payout (RTP) for this game is 95.50%, which is slightly below the current industry average. Not by much, but just enough to be troublesome over a long gambling session.

Big Runner Deluxe has low-medium volatility so that you can expect semi-frequent pays. Jackpots, especially the progressive one, will be incredibly elusive because of that.

Gameplay and Pay Table

The slot carries on the theme of its predecessor, so you will find lots of yummy fruits on the board. Golden bells and lucky sevens join Oranges, lemons, plums, strawberries, grapes, and watermelons! They kept the same shape and design as the original but were redrawn to look better.

Collecting three or more star Scatters grants a 200 coin win. This makes Scatters the most valuable icon! You also have Wilds and the Mystery Jackpot bonus symbols. The icons for both Wilds and Mystery Jackpots are just those words with a whole lot of colour tossed on top.

Collect three, four or five Scatters in any position to win five free spins. You cannot win any additional extra turns. Even if you collect three or more Scatters again, it will only reward the cash prize. During these five extra turns, a single reel is guaranteed to be filled with Wilds, increasing your odds of winning big.

Wilds are incredibly useful. If they are part of a winning combination, they can substitute for almost every symbol. The only exception is the star Scatter during normal gameplay. But this exception has another limitation! Namely, after free spins have been activated, then Wilds can replace Scatters. It’s not nearly as effective since they cannot trigger free spins anymore.

The real meat and potatoes of this game are the progressive jackpot. Each spin contributes 0.5% of your total bet to the number. Big Runner Deluxe also has a guaranteed progressive jackpot win when the maximum jackpot value of €5000 is reached.

As much as we’d love to claim these bonus features are fantastic, they really aren’t. They get the job done, but we have seen free spins and progressive jackpots many times over. The simplistic bonuses would make it ideal for new players if it weren’t for the odd reel structure.

The part that disappointed us most was the graphics. Yes, there has been an upgrade compared to the original. But the improvement to the visuals is incredibly minor. A background change, a bit of upscaling on the symbols, and that’s everything.

Credit where it’s due, Stakelogic did their best to create a modern rendition of an older slot. It doesn’t always pan out, but we appreciate the effort.
