On the 27th of January 2021, it was first reported that LeoVegas lowered the RTPs of some of their slots.

Reputable casino portal sites such as CasinoGrounds.com, CasinoMeister.com, and Bigwinboard.com were among the first to record the actions of LeoVegas.

The Swedish casino decided to offer lower RTPs on several of its Play’n GO slots, including big hitters such as Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead.

New versions of these Play’n GO slots had an RTP of 94.23%, compared to the default Return to Player of 96.50% or 96.15%.

A difference of up to 2.27% is incredibly detrimental for slot players.

In February 2021, LeoVegas continued to lower the RTPs of many slots, this time giving Pragmatic Play slots the dreaded treatment.

Most of their Pragmatic Play slots, including Wolf Gold, Buffalo King Megaways, and Fruit Party, were lowered by around 2%, down to 94.50%.

LeoVegas did not stop there, though.

The RTP of several Netent slots was lowered (for instance, the 96.1% RTP Starburst was replaced by a 94% RTP version), and nearly all Red Tiger slots were replaced by lower RTP versions.

While CasinoWizard has always been a big fan of LeoVegas due to the trustworthiness and huge game selection, he is not too fond of the whole process of lowering RTPs.

Why did LeoVegas lower the RTPs of their slots?

There are several reasons why LeoVegas has chosen to lower the RTP of their slots:

• Providers offer different RTP versions of the same slot, making it easy for the casino
• Most players don’t bother to check the Return to Player in the game rules
• Corporate greed: lower RTPs = bigger profits
• In some cases, increased taxes, which the players have to pay (in the eyes of the casino)
• Because they get away with it

Never forget a casino’s primary aim is make to make a profit.

When they see a way to maximise that profit margin, they will do it.

As long as the public puts up with it, why shouldn’t they?

Other online casinos have even lowered the RTPs of their Play’n GO slots to a paltry 88% or even a measly 84%.
