In our mission to help our fellow casino players make better choices and improve the decision-making of where to always play with the best RTPs and odds, we analyze some of the biggest online casinos worldwide.
This time it´s Casumo casino’s turn.
We want to mention that Casumo is one of our absolute favourite online casinos.
They offer a clean and user-friendly site, unique casino tournaments & jackpots, one of the best game selections, and great promotions.
However, they do have some negatives in their offering as well.
The negatives that we are mentioning here are the lowering of slot RTPs.
Some of the games that have been lowered and affected include popular slots like Reactoonz 2 with a 94.20% RTP instead of the default 96.20%.
Dr Toonz is offered with a 94.25% RTP while the default version averages 96.25%.
While many of the new releases from Play n Go are offered with a lower RTP percentage, it has to be said in Casumo´s defense that at least some of the most popular slots, like Book of Dead and Fire Joker, are still on their original default and top RTPs.
Other affected slots include selected games from NetEnt like Gonzo´s Gold and Big Bass Bonanza from Pragmatic Play, offered with a lower RTP version than the default.
Why did Casumo lower the RTPs of their slots?
The main reason is that Casumo wants to earn more money and improve its margins due to increased marketing costs, legislation with increased taxes, and more competition.
Other reasons include:
- Providers offer different RTP versions of the same slot, making it easy for the casino
- Most players don’t bother to check to Return to Player in the game rules
- Players are not aware of the various RTPs
- Corporate greed: lower RTPs = bigger profits
- In some cases, increased taxes, which the players have to pay (in the eyes of the casino)
- Because they get away with it
The lowering of RTPs is a recent trend among many online casinos and game providers, and we can expect to see many more casinos and slot suppliers following the same path.
For which providers has Casumo lowered the RTP of their slots?
This article was last updated on April 28th, 2022.
At that point in time, Casumo has lowered the RTPs of some (or all) slots from the following slot providers:
- Play’n GO
- Netent
- Red Tiger
- Pragmatic Play
- Nolimit City
Why is a lower Return to Player bad for you?
A lower RTP has several disadvantages:
- You will lose your money faster
- You will have fewer spins, so fewer chances to win big
- The game will pay less frequent
- You may feel cheated
- Less entertainment time
